The Dead Comedians Society
#1
I'd like to start sharing some things from a wonderful group on Facebook I'm in called The Dead Comedians Society. They always have rare and interesting photos and videos of comedians who have long since passed but leave great memories.

To start here's something funny and musical from British Pathe

From Eddie Deezen, (who always writes in CAPS) HOW DID JERRY LEWIS REACT WHEN HE WATCHED THE MOVIE "BELA LUGOSI MEETS A BROOKLYN GORILLA"?......................
"BELA LUGOSI MEETS A BROOKLYN GORILLA" STARRING THE DEAN MARTIN & JERRY LEWIS IMPERSONATING TEAM DUKE MITCHELL & SAMMY PETRILLO PREMIERED ON THIS DAY- OCTOBER 8, 1952.
DEAN MARTIN NEVER MINDED THE TEAM IMPERSONATING HE AND JERRY, HE SAID, "LET THEM MAKE A BUCK".
BUT JERRY LEWIS WAS FURIOUS AT THE IMPERSONATIONS AND SUED SAMMY PETRILLO.
WHILE WATCHING A SCREENING OF "BELA LUGOSI MEETS A BROOKLYN GORILLA", AFTER THE CLIMACTIC SCENE WHERE SAMMY PETRILLO GETS SHOT, JERRY SAID VERY LOUDLY, "THANK GOD!".

Charlie Chaplin at the age of 16 (supposedly, could be younger) taking the role of Billy in the resumption of the play 'Sherlock Holmes' in 1905.

From The Life And Times Of Mickey Rooney (a new book on his life)
Mickey Rooney and Queen Elizabeth
Mickey Breaks Protocol with the Queen

When Mickey Rooney met Queen Elizabeth-at her request in 2007, he broke protocol. He was told how to behave before the Queen, however, Mickey being Mickey, nonetheless kissed the Queen's hand.

Queen Elizabeth was not disturbed. When she was a teenager, she was a fan of the heartthrob Rooney who was a worldwide star as Andy Hardy and with Judy Garland.

In the picture of Mickey and the Queen, his beautiful wife Jan watches on..

During a garden party at the British Embassy in Washington, Rooney greeted Queen Elizabeth with a kiss on the hand.

WHY DID THEY CALL IT "MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS"?...................................
"MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS" PREMIERED ON THE BBC OCTOBER 5, 1969.
SEVERAL RIDICULOUS, NONSENSICAL NAMES WERE CONSIDERED AS POTENTIAL NAMES FOR THE SERIES, INCLUDING:
OWL STRETCHING TIME
A HORSE, A SPOON AND A BASIN
BUMWACKET, BUZZARD, STUBBLE AND BOOT
THE TOAD ELEVATING MOMENT
THE ONLY REASON THEY USED "MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS" WAS BECAUSE THE BBC HAD ALREADY PRINTED THEIR PROGRAM SCHEDULES WITH THAT NAME.
JOHN CLEESE SUGGESTED SOMETHING SLITHERY LIKE "PYTHON".
ERIC IDLE CAME UP WITH "MONTY" TO SUGGEST SORT OF A DRUNKEN, BRITISH STEREOTYPE.
